Pacific Research Talks Upcoming U.S. Supreme Court Decisions with Erik Jaffe
The Pacific Research Insitute (PRI) spoke to Erik Jaffe ahead of major rulings by the U.S. Supreme Court.
The host of PRI’s “Next Round” podcast discussed the high court’s decisions involving COVID-19, and major cases in this upcoming session including LGBTQ rights, DACA, abortion and President Trump’s financial records.
“It’s certainly been an atypical year,” Jaffe said, adding that there have been a few high points as well, including Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s apparent health improvement.
Another highlight according to Jaffe is the Supreme Court’s decision to listen to arguments over the phone in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. He said in-person hearings often play out like a tennis match between justices from opposing sides lodging questions at attorneys.
“Under the telephone version [of arguments] I think both the attorneys and the less-active justices are actually being given an opportunity to show a different way that oral arguments can proceed,” he added.
