US Supreme Court Agrees With Amicus Briefs Filed by Schaerr | Jaffe Attorneys in US v. Skrmetti Ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled last month, in US v. Skrmetti, that a Tennessee law banning gender-affirming care for minors does not violate the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause, agreeing with two amicus briefs filed by Schaerr | Jaffe attorneys.

Gene Schaerr and Edward H. Trent handled an amicus curiae brief on behalf of the American College of Pediatricians, a national organization of nearly 500 pediatricians and other healthcare professionals, committed to sound, evidence-based medicines.

“Our brief offered the Court essential medical context to support state efforts to protect vulnerable children by focusing on what is truly best—pediatric care free from transgender ideology,” Dr. Jill Simons, Executive Director of ACPeds, stated after the ruling.

Schaerr | Jaffe Attorneys Nick Miller and Miranda Sherril also filed a brief on behalf of Our Duty, an international support network of parents who wish to protect their children from gender ideology. The organization discussed the significance of the case on its website.

“For parents resisting the influence of gender ideology, Skrmetti is a beacon of hope—a chance to restore the balance between parental authority, state responsibility, and the rights of children to grow up free from harm. It matters not just for Tennessee, but for every family fighting to preserve truth, ethics, and justice in an increasingly ideologically driven world,” it said.
